Things you should know about Southern Florida

miami beach - art deco district

Miami Beach

Glamour, chic, rich: this is Miami Beach! An incredible nightlife after dinner in one of its famous restaurants, days spent on its sunny lazy beaches, an extensive Art Deco District: a vibrant and multicultural centre

Miami

A touch of the Caribbean  in the USA: a walk in Little Havana and it seems to be in Cuba! Then head south to eclectic architectonical styles Villa Vizcaya, the former winter residence of an industrialist, to get to Coconut Grove and Coral Gables. The end of the day carries to Downtown, amid its skyscrapers and near the port

Miami Surroundings

Heading north, the road links Miami to Hallendale, Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton and West Palm Beach: skyscrapers on the beaches, indolent time, a warm sun mitigated by a oceanic breeze. And then an adventurous trip on an airboat in the Everglades!

Gainsville and Ocala National Forest

Gainsville gravitates around the University of Florida: thousands of students flood this beautiful town. In Ocala National Forest it's necessary to get lost in it to appreciate its landscapes; a suggestion: drive towards Lake George

Orlando

Famous for the Walt Disney World and the Universal Studios, Orlando could seem a town made for kids’ leisure; instead its downtown shows, amid some sparkling skyscrapers, an incredible relic of the past in form of some typical western saloons

Sarasota

The seaman kissing a girl statue, near the port, is a very warm welcome; then visit the Ringling Museum of Art and you’ll discover a new fantastic story of this State

Tampa Bay

White sands in Clearwater, Saint Petersburg typical American houses in neat typical American roads, Ybor City in Tampa: these are all good reasons to get here and find out what this very big area has to offer

Mexico Gulf

Everglades City has spectacular sunsets on Mexico Gulf. Naples is the star in this part of Florida: smiling faces, friendliness, white sand, elegant shops in a laid-back environment. Venice and Anna Maria are the last towns before Tampa: the both bear with them a relaxed atmosphere to envy

Key Islands

The long road to Key West is highly spectacular: a sea dotted by endless bridges and tiny islands till the southernmost point in the USA, birds all around, a warm breeze, stopovers to eat some slices of lime pie. In 3 to 4 hours it is possible to get to Key West from Miami: once there, in an incredibly relaxed environment, it’ll be hard to get back

On the Road

Florida has many airports: among them, Miami, Orlando and Tampa have intercontinental flights.
Renting a car is easy but be sure to draw up a very good insurance policy which can cover every possible damage. Some carriers offer convenient prices when booking a flight. Road network is extensive but do not exceed speed limits. Best places: Highway 1 to the Key Islands while the sun rises nearby Islamorada, Highway 40 in Ocala National Forest amid tall endless trees, the busy interstate 95, Highway 90 at dawn in the Big Cypress National Forest.
Travelling by bus is cheap but it is not the quickest way to get from one city to another.
In some cities (all the major ones) be very careful at night
